Top Ten Chicago Summer Sports Events (left)

These are the sports events will make Chicago great and define how well our teams do this summer.

10. Trade Deadline (7/31)
Both teams are in first place and both need to add talent for their playoff runs. This could turn into a huge day for either team as each team looks to bring a championship to Chicago.

9. AFL Championship (7/27)

Even though I don’t give a damn, I must give props to these players. They play for nothing and work their ass off. Plus, the Rush are leading their division and have a great chance to take down the championship again. Ditka is God!

8. Red Sox vs. White Sox (8/6-8/11)
This will be the biggest test for the White Sox this year. A four game series with the best team in the AL will really tell the Sox if they are ready to make a true run at their second World Series in the last five years.

7. Cleveland vs. White Sox (9/26-9/28)

This is the last series of the year and may very well determine who takes the Central and most likely the only playoff spot from the division. With Detroit surging and Hafner coming back for Cleveland, this could be the most important series of the year.

6. Cardinals vs. Cubs (9/19-9/21)
The best rivalry in Chicago baseball, this may well be a deciding factor in whether there will be a close battle at the top of the NL Central or if the Cubs will run away with it. The Cardinals will not go away and if this trend continues this series could end up determining how the last two weeks of the season is played.

5. Cubs vs. Sox (6/27-6/29)
The second set of the Red Line series this will determine bragging right for the year; a very important thing for us bloggers and Chicago fans.

4. Bears Training Camp (7/23)
Even though my prediction of the Bears this season is less than favorable, it is still the Da Bears and they still define Chicago sports. This is one of the biggest days of the year and gives us all hope for the season.

3. NBA Draft (6/26)
This is an easy one…TAKE ROSE OR LOSE YOUR FAN BASE AND YOUR JOB PAXON!

2. Sox vs. Cubs (6/20-6/22)

The first and most exciting series left for both teams this summer. This series is always heated, but add Wrigley Field and the booze that surrounds it and you got volcano type heat surging through this series.

1. World Series (10/08)

With both teams in first place and the playoffs mostly coming down to the hottest team, anything can happen and either team or both can make it and win the series. Hopefully, at least one Chicago team will make it.

Honorable Mentions
Cubs Front Office vs. White Sox Front Office Softball Game (6/19)

Did you go to school to be a journalist? If so, you must have missed the day that "repetition" was covered. You like to repeat yourself. If you didn't do this, it would have been much easier to read and not loose focus.

No, actually I was a PoliSci major, where making the same mistakes over and over again is required to graduate. Just ask your local politician.

The WS in fall thing did cross my mind but whatever and I was unaware of the Hawks convention...I'm glad you liked the fighting (can't go wrong) and say hi to my buddy Rob Russell over yonder...he's a new guy.

Some of us would consider a few soccer events going on in Chicago this summer to be in the top ten, such as the June 6 U.S. Men's vs. Honduras World Cup qualifier.
